University Projects.
Bachelor of Design with Honours.
During her time at University MJ's photographic style and interest developed as did her skill set. She is not only a confident photographer but a curator, photobook maker, and videographer. Her projects begun by being based around New Zealand's great outdoors, focusing on discovering hidden places and documenting the New Zealand rural environment.
Her move to Wellington to study Photography significantly impacted her projects focusing on the changes in the physical and community environment.
She then turned to photograph New Zealand communities both ones she belonged to and ones she didn't. She refined her photographic approach when entering communities across several projects, creating her unique photo-documentary and observatory style, as an ethnographic photographer.
