Common Ground

An investigation into the wellbeing of a rural NZ Community.
- Queen Elizabeth Park, Masterton, 2019

‘Common Ground’ is a photographic investigation into the Wellbeing of New Zealand's rural communities. According to the New Zealand Infometic’s 2019 regional wellbeing report “Across seven of our nine domains, wellbeing is significantly higher in metropolitan centers than it is in provincial areas.” (Olsen and Kiernan 2) This project aims to understand and voice this concern by examining, highlighting, and celebrating the positive impact public green spaces have on the wellbeing of rural communities. The focus point for this investigation is around the rural community Masterton as it has very unique and diverse community space, Queen Elizabeth Park, which is central to the community.  Through the use of observative photographic approaches, the work will highlight and encourage conversations to take place about the importance of Community Wellbeing and Community green spaces.
